Strength training is a proven way to combat these effects. It stimulates bone growth, reducing the risk of osteoporosis, while preserving lean muscle mass and improving metabolic health. By the time you are in your 70s, you may have only half the muscle weight you did in your 20s. Using free weights or extra resistance can be therapeutic to correct muscle imbalances.
