There can be many excuses you tell yourself why yoga is not for you. For example, "I am not flexible enough" or "it's not for my body type/lifestyle" etc. Anything new that we try can seem intimidating in our minds if we let it. The only way to overcome this fear is to try! Allow me to show you why yoga is for everyone and every body! Do not let any of these thoughts or feelings holding you back from coming to class. All you have to do is consciously commit yourself to this new challenge and support will be offered by means of props and modifications so that you feel comfortable. In this class you'll learn the foundations of yoga. Focus is spent on alignment and connecting with the breath. Get into your body, breathe, and smile your way to discovering the bountiful benefits of yoga.

Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) is a profound relaxation practice to re-energize the body and mind. Mindful meditation helps you to create clarity, inner wisdom, and a feeling of well-being while letting go of stress.

*In between these practices, we will do some standing asanas/movements, so you are not still the whole time

Similarly to yin yoga we hold the poses longer, but we open the different body parts by relaxing, loosening and softening the muscles. If you are stressed, tired, overworked, have a burnout or an injury, this class may contribute to restore your body and relax your nervous system. It is a combination of restorative yoga poses, pranayama (breathing exercises), a short meditation, and a long final savasana. Suitable for all ages, all levels and any bodies. The relaxation in the class is enhanced by the power of high quality essential oils.

Restore, heal, and calm the mind, body, and soul while encouraging the letting go of physical and emotional stress. Opposite to dynamic styles of yoga where we find strength in contracting our muscles, we find instead a passive stretch focused on relaxing the muscles. In this way we are able to reach the deepest tissues of the body, our connective tissues - ligaments, joints, bones, and the deep fascia networks. To strengthen and stretch these target areas we hold the poses for anywhere between 2- 5 minutes utilizing directional breathing techniques. This provides deep relaxation, internal bodily awareness, the ability to recognize and respect our boundaries, and stimulates meridians and organs. Many modifications are provided along with cushions, blankets, and blocks to adjust the practice to exactly what your body needs for easy relaxation.

Classical Hatha Yoga, the Sonia Sumar Method for Children.

In this practice we utilize the power of sound while focusing on voice and hand coordination. Perform eye exercises to stimulate awareness and work on retinal muscles. Perform breathing techniques to build up stamina and bring awareness to your breathe. The body is then taken through four planes of movement while in flow with the breath. Power and flexibility are restored through repetitive cycles of postures. Class ends with an active body relaxation and a meditative process to assimilate the effects of the class.

Kids from ages 6-12 are welcome. If your child is a bit outside this range but would still like to register just email yoga@karunika.nl

Classes can be taught in Dutch or English.

The class opens with an invocation followed by opening our lungs through breathing exercises to wake up and build the energy within us. You are then taken through UPA yoga which is a practice involved in activating the nerve endings in your joints in order to stimulate blood flow and flexibility. This is followed by asanas (postures) and sun salutation. Also included are eye exercises to stimulate the ocular nerve endings and pranayamas (breathwork) to increase your energy. It ends with a relaxation technique that aids you to arrive at a meditative state.
