DESCRIPTION: Yin is the slow one, the deep exhale at the end of your day.

Where faster classes move you through pose after pose, Yin asks you to do very little: settle into a handful of floor-based shapes and simply stay, each one held for several quiet minutes. Bolsters, blankets and blocks support you the whole way, so your muscles can switch off and the practice can work deeper, into the connective tissue, fascia and joints that rarely get a look-in.

Don't let "gentle" fool you, though. Staying still is the real work here. As the minutes stretch out you'll feel plenty, a slow, steady opening that releases tension you didn't know you were holding, and a quiet that settles the mind as much as the body. You'll leave looser, softer and unmistakably calmer.

It's the perfect counterbalance to busy days, strong practices and long weeks, and quite possibly the kindest hour you'll give yourself all week.

Good to know: Yin doesn't build heat the way a flow does, so bring cosy layers and thick socks to keep that warmth wrapped around you.
