Alice has been a qualified Pilates instructor and Level 3 Sports and Remedial massage therapist since 2008. Pilates is a passion for Alice, having used it in her own life. She found it especially good for rebuilding her pelvic floor and core strength following the births of her 2 children. She now brings her enthusiastic and friendly approach to helping people improve their mobility and strength. Pilates can help to relieve tension in the body, and promotes mobility, flexibillity and strength in all the major muscle groups. It also improves posture by focusing on the deep core muscles. It also promotes mindfulness and body awareness that can keep us active and safe in our everyday lives!

Movement has the power to transform not only how we feel physically, but also how we experience life. Helping people move better, feel stronger and reconnect with their bodies is at the heart of everything I do. I’ve spent over 17 years working in health and wellness, following an unexpected career change from research conservation scientist—studying endangered turtles and whales around the world—to supporting people’s health and wellbeing. I’m an Advanced Yoga Teacher, Advanced Personal Trainer, Structural Bodyworker and Ayurvedic Massage Therapist. Over the past decade, I’ve deepened my knowledge of yoga, fascia, anatomy and movement, shaping an approach that brings together traditional yoga, modern movement science and bodywork. I’m the creator of The Fascial Release Method, also known as Fascial Fitness—a distinctive movement system developed through years of study, teaching and hands-on experience. It combines dynamic fascial conditioning, targeted myofascial release using cork balls, mobility training and restorative stretching to work with the body’s connective tissue in a uniquely integrated way. Rather than focusing on isolated muscles or flexibility alone, Fascial Fitness helps improve the way the whole body moves, supports greater freedom and ease, rehabilitate & prevent injury and can reduce tension, stiffness and discomfort. My teaching also draws on a wide range of disciplines, including Hatha, Power, Forrest, Yin, Mandala and Restorative Yoga, as well as fascial and mobility-based practices. Each class is designed to build strength, improve mobility, release tension and develop resilience, while remaining accessible and adaptable to different bodies, abilities and stages of life. Whether you join me for an energising flow, a restorative practice or Fascial Fitness, my aim is simple: to help you understand your body, move with greater freedom and confidence, and leave feeling stronger, calmer and more connected. I believe movement should be inclusive, enjoyable and empowering—not about achieving the perfect pose, but about discovering what your own body is capable of.

My qigong journey began when I returned to Dorset in 1999 after more than a decade in London. My new lifestyle gave me the opportunity to join a local yoga class. During summer workshops, our teacher introduced us to different practices, including qigong. The slow, mindful movements immediately struck a chord. At a time when I rushed through everything, qigong’s subtlety and focus were a revelation. The grace of the teacher and the movements inspired me to want to teach qigong one day. With no qigong classes nearby, I joined a tai chi group to develop related skills. A move to Berkshire in 2013 led me to train as a holistic therapist, studying massage and reflexology. I finally found a local qigong class and realised how deeply it resonated with me. I launched Rooke Holistic Therapies in 2015 and achieved my long-held goal of becoming a qigong teacher in 2019 after a three-year training course. Teaching has become my favourite way to practise, and I always leave classes feeling better. After more than ten years away, I wanted to move back to the West Country and fulfil a lifelong desire to live by the sea. I was drawn to Sidmouth and am glad to be able to share qigong in the beautiful studio at the Ocean Wellness Hub. My class is open to all, whether you are a beginner or more experienced. Do come and give it a go…

My Intention… Movement is improvement; Having a background in sport & exercise has given me a platform to learn more about the human body & share my passion of movement, which essentially is prescribed exercise. Working with people from all over the world & from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and abilities has empowered me to offer a variety of movement modalities including fitness, yoga, animal movement, strength & conditioning.
