DESCRIPTION: Dale's 75-min Yin Nidra class begins with 45 minutes of Yin postures and then leads into 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra. The class will be conducted in a sunlit, open room with the Yin portion accompanied by music. This class will be held in our wellness center Saturday, May 6th from 11-1215p. This class is suitable for all levels of yoga practice.

Yin yoga postures are designed to open up the body by prolonged holds of deep stretching techniques – typically between 2 to 5 minutes in length. These techniques are designed to put both your body and mind in a state of deep relaxation. Yin yoga focuses on the connective tissues of the body – tendons, fascia, and ligaments – with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Often referenced as more meditative approach to yoga, Yin aims at cultivating awareness of inner silence, bringing peace to the body, mind and spirit.

The second part of the class, Yoga Nidra, builds upon the relaxed physical and mental state from the preceding Yin postures. Yoga Nidra – also known as Yogic Sleep – is a state of consciousness similar to the process of drifting off to sleep. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of their inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required.
Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.
