Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in a hatha or vinyasa class. This class consists of a series of long-held floor poses followed by a Yoga Nidra practice, a guided meditation for deep rest. Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping induced by a guided meditation. Through this practice, practitioners will achieve a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and they will become systematically and increasingly aware of their inner world by following a set of verbal instructions.

Prenatal yoga is designed to support mothers-to-be on their individual pregnancy journeys, from conception all the way to birth. Suitable for women in all three trimesters, this class focuses on supporting women with the physical and emotional changes taking place at each stage of pregnancy as well as preparing their body and mind for delivery.

In a Core class, specific poses and sequences are designed to help you access and understand your core which improves alignment and stability as well as connecting the mind and body. This class will be strong and dynamic. Often thought of as just abdominal muscles, it’s more accurate to think of our ‘core’ like an apple core, running from the top of our head to the inner arches of your feet. With a strong core you improve almost every yoga pose and the whole practice of yoga becomes much easier and safer.

This is the perfect course for those who are new to yoga and wish to explore this world a little closer. In this class, we will take care of new yoga students, helping them to get started with the foundations of yoga. This course is structured as a 3-month course and will take place three times per year (September – December, January – April, April – July). This holistic course goes through the basics of all things yoga in 12 weeks, including asanas (postures), breathing techniques as well as philosophical aspects. We will explore the different foundational asanas and start moving through a few flows.

This vinyasa class draws its inspiration from the primary series sequence of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It is structured to include the traditional sun salutations and a selection of the standing, seated and finishing sequence postures. Practicing a set sequence will allow you to become more and more familiar with each posture, which in turn will allow you to track your progress through time. Becoming familiar with the sequence, will also allow you to relax and let your body take over, transforming the practice into a moving meditation. This class is a great opportunity to build your strength and flexibility, and to start becoming acquainted with the Ashtanga yoga sequence. It is suitable for practitioners of all levels, as modifications will be provided.

In a Katonah Yoga class you’ll explore poses that you know with a new perspective. You’ll flip a wrist in a pose, use your body as a measure and learn new ways to fit yourself. The goal is to develop your curiosity, your sense of personal measure and ultimately to bring you joy! This class will incorporate metaphors - think of your body as a house and a lot of seasonal references - prop use and dynamic breathwork. Suited for beginners and all levels.

Learning how to handstand can often feel like a very scary task. But if we start with the basics and really master the fundamentals, then our inversion practice will grow.

In these sessions, you will learn and refine techniques to prepare you to go upside down with ease and tools that will help you in your personal practice to continue working on your handstand on your own whenever and wherever you are.

Basic Handstand session – Beginners and all levels.

In this first session, participants will receive a solid base and the tools with which they can start their handstand practice or take it to a higher level safely and efficiently.

We will cover the following topics:
• Physical and technical preparation for handstand
• Correct handstand alignment
• Balance strategies: where does the balance lie?
• Wall work basics
• Partner work: correct spotting
