Mysore yoga is a student-focused, highly individualized method of teaching Ashtanga Yoga. In a Mysore setting, the Ashtanga sequences are taught with three main focuses: Asana, Breath, and Gaze. The sequences are taught incrementally rather than all at once. That is to say, a student will learn portions of Ashtanga series little by little in order to facilitate the commitment of the series to memory, as well as gradually building the strength, flexibility, and discipline that is required to progress in the series. This practice is suited for anyone who enjoys individualized teaching, a personal practice, and the feel of community.

Don't worry if you're confused, just come!

We are happy to offer weekly meditation classes by donation every Wednesday. The suggested donation is a sliding scale from $5-15 depending on what you can afford. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds!

We begin our meditations with 10-15 minutes of movement before settling into a seated posture. Each class will zoom in on a series of mudras centered around a weekly theme. Mudras are thought to create energetic shifts inside the body. They are also great tools in the exploration of noticing the activities of inner and outer worlds, attuning to subtle energies and energetic flows, and cultivating deeper self awareness. The marriage of mudras and meditation can also assist in grounding into the present moment and facilitating an inner alchemy.

Our Chakra Vinyasa practice is an all-levels class designed to be a holistic immersion into our chakra systems. Each week we dive deeply into one of our chakras, beginning with the root and working our way to the crown chakra. These classes include dynamic movement, aimed to open, align, and enhance whichever chakra we are working with, as well as mantras, mudras, music and more. Here, we investigate not only our internal worlds but the correlates of our outer worlds while we learn and practice tools with which we can recalibrate and restore our own balance in the imbalance that is life.

The practice of Yoga Nidra is an organic journey into the state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. In this liminal space, we navigate through the layers of self toward pure awareness and sow a fertile seed in the transformative soils of our minds.
Yoga Nidra induces both low alpha and high theta brain waves, associated with presence or alertness and sleep or meditation, respectfully. While alpha brain waves are thought to coordinate with perceiving the “outer” world, theta brain waves are thought to coordinate with sensing signals from within. Through this meditative union of inner and outer worlds, it is said that one can reach samadhi - or blissful contemplation, undisturbed by desire.
As an added bonus, one hour of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to four hours of sleep.

Yin is a slow and meditative form of yoga where poses are held for 3-5 minutes. Unlike other forms of yoga, which are centered around alignment, building heat, and focus on our muscles, yin invites us to soften, round, fold into ourselves, and allow gravity to support us. It addresses the delicate fibers of the fascia, which interweaves our entire body, as well as other deep connective tissues such as ligaments and joints. .
