Jack Avery
Inspired by more than twelve years of personal yoga practice, Dr. Jack Avery has developed a deep appreciation for the ways the ancient traditions of yoga can support whole-person well-being. His longstanding practice, together with more than 25 years practicing primary care medicine, has fostered a particular interest in the ways modern scientific understanding and the enduring wisdom of Hatha Yoga can complement one another. Jack brings this perspective to his teaching, drawing on both modern scientific understanding and the enduring wisdom of Hatha Yoga. Through movement, breath, mindfulness, and yoga philosophy, he invites students to explore practices that can enrich everyday life. At the heart of his approach is the belief that the body can become a doorway to greater awareness, offering a pathway toward a deeper understanding of the mind. Known for his warm, thoughtful, and educational teaching style, Jack creates space for curiosity, reflection, and exploration while offering practical tools that extend well beyond the yoga mat.

Description

Yoga is often recognized for its physical postures, yet the postures are only one part of a much richer tradition. This unique class invites you to explore the timeless teachings of the Eight Limbs of Yoga—a practical guide for living with greater awareness, balance, and well-being.

Guided by guest teacher Dr. Jack Avery, this class brings together modern scientific understanding and the enduring wisdom of Hatha Yoga. Each class weaves accessible movement, breathing practices, mindfulness, guided discussion, and reflection into an exploration of yoga as a complete practice—one that extends far beyond the physical postures.

Expect to explore the Eight Limbs not simply as ancient philosophy, but as practical teachings that can shape how we care for ourselves, relate to others, navigate life’s challenges, and find greater presence and balance in everyday life.

Whether you’re new to yoga or have practiced for years, this class offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of yoga’s richer tradition while exploring how its teachings remain relevant in our lives today.

**New participants are always welcome. Each class stands on its own, so you can join at any time—no previous classes or knowledge of yoga philosophy are required.

“The practice begins on the mat, but its lessons are meant to accompany us into everyday life.”
— Dr. Jack Avery
