Description

Ashtanga yoga is a rather dynamic and energetic style of yoga and is a foundational practice of modern vinyasa. It was first brought to the West by Pattabhi Jois and the practice was passed down to him from an ancient text. Although the Ashtanga system includes six asana sequences, we will focus on the Primary Series in this class. Primary Series is also known as Yoga Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy and is designed to detoxify and realign the body. This set sequence includes sun salutations (surya namaskar a and b), standing postures, seated postures, and a finishing sequence, with all poses synchronized with the movement of breath.

Although this class can be challenging and physically demanding, Rachel strives to make it playful and accessible, but she does recommend some previous yoga experience.
