About Elevate & Play Yoga
My name is Michele Anderson, owner of Elevate & Play Yoga (Formally Inner Light Children's Yoga). For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in health and wellness.
For 26 years, I worked as a public school special education teacher and during that time, I noticed the increasing need for children to learn self-regulation and focusing strategies. In addition, because they spend more time sitting indoors– in classrooms, on the couch watching TV or playing on an electronic device– they often lack core stability and overall physical stamina. Additionally, since many of their preferred activities involve being behind a screen, children exhibit more social challenges.
I had an overwhelming desire to find a way to reach children and help them become calmer, more connected, and more physically healthy. In 2017 I completed my 200-hour family yoga certification through the Radiant Child Yoga program. From there, I went on to earn my certification in Aerial Yoga from Good Karma Yoga Studio.
Since then, I have continued to deepen my study and understanding of yoga. I received further training from Karma Kids Yoga, including yoga for children, and yoga for babies and toddlers. I also received my second 200-hour yoga teaching certification through the LYT Method yoga teacher training program. I went on to complete additional trainings and specialty modules, including Yoga 4 Athletes through TUNE Yoga. These diverse courses of study allow me to offer yoga classes for every member of the family, from babies to senior citizens!
Recently, I secured a larger space, and will be opening our new studio at 7582 North Broadway (Suite 2) in Red Hook, NY. As I have expanded the studio, I am now able to offer more classes for adults. We now have an entire "Dream Team" of adult yoga instructors who have a wide variety of teaching skills and speciality areas. We anticipate opening our door in late September 2025 and can't wait to welcome you!
With the expansion of the studio, we can now host additional offerings including:
-yoga at your school or facility
-professional development for school staff
-birthday party yoga
- private classes for families and special events
-yoga coach sessions for middle school, high school, and college athletes (in-studio or at your location)
-more pop up events, such as Kitty Yoga
