Description
Join Noopur and Viresh for a two-hour collaborative Teacher’s Practice at Nueva Luna in Lausanne, exploring the traditional roots of yoga through movement, breath, sound, philosophy and storytelling.
Yoga is much more than a physical practice. Behind the postures we teach are centuries of tradition, philosophy, symbolism and stories that often get lost in the way yoga is practised and taught today. This session is an invitation to reconnect with those foundations, deepen our understanding of the practices we share with our students, and explore how ancient teachings can continue to inform modern yoga classes.
We will begin with Viresh, who will guide us through Om chanting, pranayama and mantra, creating space to settle the mind, connect with the breath and prepare the body for practice. From there, we will move into traditional Hatha Yoga postures, taking time to experience the qualities of steadiness, awareness and presence.
Noopur will then guide us into a flowing Vinyasa practice, bringing together the stillness of Hatha and the rhythm of movement. Rather than approaching these as separate styles, we will explore how they complement one another, creating a continuous practice that connects breath, movement and intention.
At the heart of the session, we will slow down to explore a selection of classical asanas in greater depth. Beyond their physical alignment and expression, we will look at their Sanskrit names, meanings, symbolism and the stories associated with them. Through storytelling and discussion, we will explore how these postures connect to the wider philosophical and cultural traditions of yoga, and what we can learn from these connections as both practitioners and teachers.
Asana Katha brings together the different dimensions of a traditional yoga practice: breath, sound, stillness, movement, philosophy and reflection. It is an opportunity to step outside our usual teaching routines, return to being students ourselves and deepen our relationship with the practice beyond the physical postures.
As always, the intention of the Teacher’s Practice is not to master more techniques or collect more knowledge, but to create space to practise, question, exchange and continue learning together.
An invitation to reconnect with the roots of yoga, explore the stories behind the postures we teach, and bring greater depth, meaning and intention into our own practice and teaching.
This session will be in English.
