About Holler Yosakoi
Hi! I'm Kristy, the leader of Holler Yosakoi!
I found a love of niche, modern Japanese dance styles through the para para boom of the early 2000’s. Since then, I have been an enthusiastic teacher and performer with my greatest love being yosakoi.
Yosakoi is a style of Japanese festival dancing from Kochi, Japan that combines traditional Japanese dance with modern moves and music. It is known for colorful costumes, the iconic clack of a percussion instrument called “naruko,” and energetic performances from people of all ages, dance experience, and fitness levels.
My goal is to build an inclusive local yosakoi community. Through yosakoi, we can explore Japanese culture, discover joy in movement, have fun performing, and celebrate diversity right here in our hometown.
