About Liz Burns Yoga
It would be my privilege to share your yoga journey whatever stage you’re at.
I teach adults Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Chair, Nidra, in-person and on Zoom. I love teaching yoga, 1-1, group setting, charities and corporates .
Grounded in my own life experiences as a health professional, a runner and recovering from injury,
My own journey had a few false starts. Reflecting back, I was attending classes that were either too advanced or that just didn’t hit the spot. It was finding the right teacher that found me hooked and committed. I left every class feeling uplifted, energised, stronger, stretched or relaxed. In turn those benefits found their way into my everyday life. Yoga was no longer just an add-on to my running, cycling or my exercise routine. It became a core part of me and something I wanted to explore more and to share with others.
For most of my professional life, I was a senior nurse working in both hospitals and General Practice.
In my personal life a car crash several years back resulted in broken bones in my neck and spinal problems. I needed to adapt my practice. To give you an example it took me a year to practice and do 'Upward Dog' pose with some ease, one that many of us may take for granted. I relate this experience when students have their own challenges. Our bodies are real and different and I understand our challenges of movement are real too.
At this crossroads, I decided to commit to the path of yoga teaching. I may have been one of the less experienced and less flexible in the class but I knew I had the drive and resilience, as well as my professional medical and personal people skills to draw on alongside my own experiences of injury recovery. I committed and completed my initial Hatha yoga training. But in yoga as in life I love to keep learning and so enrolled in other yoga training courses and am open to change.
My style is welcoming. I take my yoga teaching seriously with thought-out plans and appreciate that a one-size-fits-all approach won’t cut it. However, I don't take myself seriously. My sense of humour and realistic approach will peek through.
In our practice together expect lots of alignment tips to aid your unique body, a functional approach to movement and a challenging practice at times, heck, you might even have fun.
I look forward to meeting you, to working with you to ensure your time on the yoga mat works for you.
