Stephen Hartnett
Stephen started practicing yoga in 2001 in Seattle under the guidance of his first teacher, Matt Meko. After years of looking for ways to heal from various injuries and health challenges, he found a great deal of relief in the breath practices of pranayama. Stephen decided to take his yoga practice deeper by studying at Lotus Yoga, there he earned his RYT 200-hour certification in 2017, Stephen is currently completing his 500-hour certification with Lotus. Stephen is registered with the Yoga Alliance. Stephen offers private and group classes. He teaches at Lotus Yoga in Columbia City and Tukwila Village Senior Center among other venues. His classes happen on the mat, in the chair, online and sometimes in the park! Stephen also teaches Goat Yoga at the Wobbly Ranch in Snohomish when classes are in session. When he is not teaching yoga, he can be found wandering the neighborhoods of South Seattle with groups of dogs on leash or teaching students French and English!
Description
Online offering.

This accessible and powerful practice is for everyone: those who are new to yoga, yoga practitioners who regularly practice in a chair and yoga practitioners for whom this is a new approach to their practice.

In chair yoga, your chair takes the place of your yoga mat and becomes an extension of your body. Chair Yoga allows you to modify your yoga practice based on your mobility, health, and current abilities. It allows you to practice yoga just as you are today and to practice anywhere there is a chair!

Chair Yoga offers a practice that includes poses while seated on the chair. It also includes some standing poses using the chair for balance and support. Chair Yoga may be beneficial to those working with injuries or inflexibility, those who feel balance is a challenge and those just looking for new experiences of the yoga shapes.

All you need is yourself, a little space where you can move your arms and legs, a stable chair, your curiosity and a device that is connected to the internet or a hotspot.

This mindful chair yoga practice will incorporate a mindfulness-based approach to yoga breath practice, yoga shapes (asana) done in and with the chair and deeply relaxing rest.

As with any yoga practice, advice and consent of a physician is recommended.
