Learn the basic skills needed for belly dance! Suitable for all levels, but specifically aimed at complete beginners, beginners, and intermediate belly dance levels!

This will be a crash course in the following areas :
- Warm up/ how to belly dance safely/ belly dance for period pains or womb connection/ healing
- Isolation and how to dance to the beat
- How to layer moves (put one move on top of another to perform two moves simultaneously)
- Travelling (techniques for moving across the floor gracefully -avoid being stuck in one place)
- Improvisation -integrating belly dance into your everyday dance style -weddings, night clubs, parties
- How to play with props such as belly dance veil, fan veils, LED isis wings. And practise play time!
- Expression -how to express yourself while you dance, including facial expressions!
- Learn a very simple choreography with an option to film your dance!


What to bring:
Please bring something to wrap around your waist e.g. a belly dance coin belt, chunni, scarf, hip scarf, or pashmina.
Please bring water.
Please bring an open heart.

What to wear:
Wear comfortable clothing that makes you feel happy and gives you a free range of movement, for example leggings and a top.
We will be dancing in bare feet.
Please tell us if you have any ailments or physical disabilities that may limit your physical movement. If you have any concerns, please consult your doctor.
If you are pregnant or you think you might be, please consult your doctor before you sign up. Belly dance is amazing for pregnancy, but certain belly dance moves are thought to affect pregnancy in some situations.

Early bird: Rs 500 before September 24, Rs 650 as of September 24.

About Sapna:
Sapna Sandya is from the UK and has been in Mauritius for 3 years. She started dancing on stage when she was aged 13, and performed in various shows, musicals, and concerts, while she was still at school. At the age of 15 she crossed paths with belly dancing, and she fell in love with it! She learned a wide variety of dance styles from Egyptian, British, and American belly dance teachers and performers. Since then she has been in shows and events, and continues to entertain people today! Sapna is currently a belly dance teacher in Grand Baie, Mauritius, and she also runs workshops and organises performances. Her aim is to spread the beautiful energy and joy of belly dancing!
