Pilates is a physical exercise method designed by Joseph Pilates that became really popular due to its approachable and effective style. The principles of Pilates are concentration, relaxation, alignment, breathing, centring (core stability), coordination, flowing movements and stamina. It focuses mainly on developing and correctly using the core muscles for better posture (and good support of the body, especially the spine), body toning, stability and ease of movement. A Pilates class is composed of a series of dynamic movements, coherently following each other leaving the students energized towards its end. This form of workout is safe and gradually allows for body awareness, increases strength and flexibility and improves coordination. With the right approach and care, perseverance and willingness, everybody can benefit from the values that Pilates has to offer.
