Description
Pranayama = Breath Control
Pranayama is the fourth of the eight limbs of the yoga way and found in various sanskrit texts.
It is made up of the two words prana (“life energy”) and ayama (“expansion, control”) and encompasses the various breathing exercises of yoga.
Regular practice strengthens pulmonary functions and increases breathing capacity. The lungs, diaphragm, ribs, intercostals muscles and all the other accessory muscles awaken.
Many pranayama practices positively impact mental health and have emerged as potential tools for stress management and well-being.
We will experience a selection of pranayama techniques described in Sanskrit text such as the hatha yoga pradipika.
