Description
Qigong is practiced worldwide for energy cultivation: for relaxation, focus, healing, mobility, prevention of disease, inner connection, spirituality and much more. The applications are wide-ranging.
This class is of mixed-style qigong, with softer, slower parts and more dynamic parts. Our aims are to release stress and tension from the body & mind, and to cultivate a healthy, relaxing flow of energy to wind down for a restful night's sleep.
Qi = energy, Gong = skill/cultivation and/or benefits received through practice.
We may practice breathwork, tapping/knocking, stretching, energy meditation, and gentle, mindful movement to encourage energy flow. We work with the meridian system from TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), and the wisdom of Buddhism, Daoism and much more to assist in our journey. With breath, movement and awareness we can change and encourage the flow of qi to support our body, mind, & spirit.
Through practice we have the possibility of understanding and experiencing another essential part of Chinese theory - the 5 Elements (or Wu Xing), these are: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire & Earth. These elements also relate to the seasons. We work differently depending on what time of year we are in to best support our energy. We also recognise and support the individual on their journey, however they show up, wherever they are. And though classes are generalised, we can make suggestions and tailor to individual needs where possible.
Often we incorporate well-known qigong forms such as the 8 Brocades (Ba Duan Jin), 18 Forms (Shi Ba Shi), Daoist 5, Ji Ben Gong, The 3 Treasures, Animal Frolics, Zhan Zhuang, Shaolin styles & more. We will both repeat practices and try different ones in each session to encourage and support our learning. Overtime, we hope to build our knowledge and experience of qigong.
The class is suitable for beginners and regular practitioners. No need for any special equipment. You will just need a body, a mind, and your energy, and of course a suitable and conducive space to practice in. The class is tutor led, via zoom.
As a suggestion, please avoid eating too close to class (45 minutes), as this may disrupt the full benefits. If you are extremely tired or have any health conditions that you wish to disclose, please get in touch. Please wear comfortable clothing. And you may also want to bring drink and a chair or cushion nearby, if you wish to sit (though not essential). The class is predominantly done standing, though it can be tailored to being seated, if necessary.
Please come and join a lovely, welcoming group to practice with, and experience the benefits for yourself!
