Daphne @Syzygy
Daphne embarked on her Ashtanga yoga journey in Asia in 2006 under the guidance of Alexander Medin in Hong Kong & Bella Lipat in the Philippines. She initially trained to teach the Sivananda traditions whilst opening up a first-of-it’s-kind yoga studio in her hometown with her business partner. Daphne became sufficiently inspired by the positive effects of her practice as a yoga instructor and her own personal yoga inquisition to undertake her first formal yoga training in India in 2009. She then expanded her ancient practice modality in Thailand, conducting a Traditional Thai Massage Therapy course in Women’s Healthcare before her big move to the UK in 2010. On her move to London, Daphne retained her yogic journey in the traditional yoga lineage, attending asana classes, pranayama and kirtans at Satyananda Yoga Center and Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center whilst continuing with her on-going Ashtanga practice and study, taking specialist Teacher Training courses and workshops under the Ashtanga vinyasa method. Daphne extends gratitude to all her teachers past and present, and continues to study in her favoured areas of interest to add depth to her knowledge for her own internal nourishment and to share it with other practitioners.

Description

Students practise a set sequence of postures at their own pace, following their own breath, and adding more postures in the first series as the body opens whilst the teacher offers one-on-one insight and assistance to each student in a group setting. Practising in this way is called Mysore-style and is the traditional way to learn Ashtanga vinyasa yoga. The shala is also open to any style of yoga. Suitable for beginners and advanced practioners. This unique method of yoga practice allows for students of varying physical abilities to share space, creating a diverse community. The instructor can also lead some Surya warm-up sequence to begin with and some sequencing later on in the practice to get used to the Sanskrit counting. It is designed for students who want to build a regular personal practice and seeks hands-on adjustment or guidance from a qualified yoga instructor.

Suitable as well to any levels and other styles of yoga practitioners who are attempting any advance poses who would like some physical support or assistance from the yoga teacher present during the time of the Ashtanga self-practice from others.

Mats and other yoga props are available to use plus variety of yoga books for resources and self-study whilst you are on your mat during your session.

The shala can be opened for self-practice from 7:30AM (prior noticed) on Tuesdays & Thursdays with assistance & adjustments.

The shala can also be opened for practice on Sunday with advance arrangement. Please contact by emailing practice@syzygyyoga.co.uk for access to the shala.
