Kari Malen
Yoga has been a pillar of Kari's physical and mental health practice for over two decades. Originally she incorporated yoga as a stretching routine to maintain an athletic lifestyle which later became an exploration and fascination with the ‘so much more’ that yoga has to offer. Her classes are playful, exploratory, and designed to provide you with an embodied experience while meeting you where you are at physically.
Kari's original yoga teacher training (YTT 250+) took place in Mysore, India under Yogacharya Barath Shetty – a disciple of B.K.S. Iyengar – in the IndeaYoga style, earning a teaching certificate in 2012. She is also trained in specific body care modalities including; Hip Bliss, Shoulder Recovery, Yoga & the Aging Body, Cardio Yoga Sculpt, Inversions, & Anatomy Trains – yoga for Myofascial release.
Description
Beginners: lean into yoga as an exploration of body, breath, balance, and beyond - this class offers an entryway into the world of what yoga can do for you.
Seasoned Practitioners: revisit alignment habits and undo potentially injurious ones, focus on body articulation, proprioception, interoception, and simmer in poses a little longer than a flow class allows. Reconnect with your practice on a deeper level. Who knows what you might discover.

TRY BOTH the 3 Bodies Movement & Lights Out!
1 hour of guided movement, 1 hour of free-form dance.
No need for prior experience in dance.
GUIDED MOVEMENT - using different tools to work with the physical body, mental/emotional body, and spirit with the hopes of creating unity in the individual and recognizing our relationship to other. The class is guided in theme but the movements are improvised. Finding your own interpretation of the story work will deepen our communication with our body and creative, intuitive self.
FREEFORM DANCE - class is followed by Lights Out, a freeform dance hour in a dimly lit room. This one hour freeform dance is a no talking, no shoes, dimly lit room, allowing a more introspective and uninhibited safe space to explore your moving body in rhythm and play.
Enter through the back parking lot, this space is next to Revolt Gallery and Salon X.

Modifications and variations are given to meet you where you are at on the mat. If you are new to yoga or ready for more advanced postures, this class allows for both. Each week we explore different themes approaching the practice from the mental, emotional and physical body, weaving the practice on the mat into our daily life.
Not always needed, but good to have at least one block, a strap (preferably 8-10 ft) and a blanket for class.

Description
Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) - a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance (as written by Traumaprevention.com)
Class begins with some grounding exercises and breathwork.
What you need: A yoga mat or one to two blankets for comfort. Loose comfortable clothing recommended.

Johanna DeBiase
Johanna has been practicing yoga for 25 years and received her certification to become a yoga instructor in 2014. Since then, she has taught in local Taos studios, including Shree, Aurafitness and Ojo Caliente. Recently, she discovered and fell in love with the deep spiritual tradition of Yoga Nidra and fervently wishes to spread the word about this amazing practice. She became certified to teach Yoga Nidra in 2020.
Description
End your week with intention and deep relaxation using the ancient spiritual practice of Yoga Nidra.
This hypnagogic state of consciousness practiced in savasana (corpse pose) occurs between waking and dreaming, while remaining embodied and aware. Utilizing techniques from the yogic lineages of Swami Satyananda Saraswati from the Sivananda lineage and Swami Rama from the Himalayan Tradition, Johanna's Yoga Nidra meditations include guided narrative journeys using symbols and visual scenes that access the subconscious seeds of samskaras (latent deep impressions in the unconscious mind).
At this level, Yoga Nidra is used to change habits, release deep tensions and heal inner wounds. Yoga Nidra practiced regularly to its fullest capacity can lead to moksha (spiritual liberation).

(All class times listed Taos, NM time: MDT)
