About Wilde Yoga Sanctuary
Hi, I'm Sue, about to embark on my new business! 🤩
I'm very family orientated having had twin boys who are now 29. I have two step children and four grandchildren!
My background is predominantly working with horses - running a livery yard for 25 years along with teaching at Pony Club, private teaching and competing at dressage myself.
I started yoga when I was 50 - 16 years ago.... Pilates was my earlier exercise routine along with the riding but once I discovered yoga I was hooked! I found it has a way of healing my body and mind after the continual demanding work of being with horses! They have done quite a lot of damage to my body over the years and I found that yoga helped to fix it in so many ways. The mind as well.....
I did my teacher training in 2019 with the amazing Jodie Merrick, founder of Fringe Yoga in Epping. My Mum encouraged me to do it and actually paid for the training. She heartbreakingly passed away just after I qualified. Unfortunately, I didn't really get to do any 'in person' teaching for some time due to the pandemic, but I did teach online for a while. I had a break for a few years but then last year, we moved house, I lost my livery business which prompted me back into teaching yoga again. I've never stopped practising myself over the years and now I feel I'd like to bring it to others.
So, I've had a small studio built at the bottom of the garden and named it the 'Wilde Yoga Sanctuary' in memory of my Mum and Dad.
The Fringe Yoga method aims to bring a little bit of everything to the practice. Fringe meaning 'a field of study that departs from the mainstream'. Using vinyasa flows, calming yin, maybe some weights and music it should take you on a journey through mind, body and soul.
We use the 4 basic elements in our practice, changing weekly.
🌱 EARTH 🌱 - with specific focus on feet, legs, pelvic alignment and the glutes.
🌊 WATER 🌊 - relates to the hips, pelvis, lumbar spine, reproductive organs and everything fluid in the body.
🔥 FIRE 🔥 - working on the core for compression, decompression and twists. A strong core helping to support the spine.
💨 AIR 💨 - concentrating on the upper body, shoulders, arms, wrists and hands with backbends and arm balances.
We work through the movements with the breath. As you become more familiar with the poses/asanas the flow with the breath eventually starts to happen. With many of the poses they help to release tension in your joints and soft tissue. We will work with alignment in all the poses to ensure you are doing them correctly. As you begin to hold the poses for longer and, by repetition, it will help to build strength around the joints, your core and help with balance.
Most people think yoga is all about the stretching. Once all the above are in place the stretch through the joints becomes easier. Also, I think people think they're not 'flexible' enough to do yoga. Yoga is for 'every' body. Each of our bodies are unique and what some people can do doesn't mean the next person can. There are still many things my body can't do but I keep showing up and trying. It's about showing up, and giving yourself that time for you, on your mat.
