Nāda yoga ~ Chanting Mantras
Mantra singing, like meditating, is meant to focus your attention and to be in the moment. Mantras open the door to a higher consciousness. It is a type of meditation, even listening to mantras has that effect.
Nada yoga is also called sound yoga or yoga of sound, and sometimes even sound therapy. Nada Yoga is based on the assumption that the entire universe, and everything in it, including humans, consists of vibrations called Nada. Everything is vibration, and vibration is sound. Light consists of waves, and waves are vibrations. Particles from quantum mechanics, which make up matter, behave like waves with a frequency. Nada Yoga is a philosophical system, a medicine and a form of Yoga. Nada Yoga is also a reverent way of looking at and responding to vibrations. Nada is described in the Vedic texts as the “unstruck sound”. Normal sounds are always produced by 2 things or elements hitting each other. The silent vibrations of the Self or Internal Music are called Anahata in Sanskrit, and are sensed through the Anahata (4th) Chakra, the heart chakra. Ahata stands for “ordinary sounds” and music. The silent vibrations of the Self and music are a means to achieve greater oneness with both the Inner and Outer Cosmos. The alternation of sound and silence allows you to experience yourself with the Silences and descend deeper into yourself. With Nada Yoga you actually create moments to be with yourself and experience where and how you are at that moment. Nada Yoga, chakra sounds Painting by Pieter Weltevrede Nada Yoga is used as a soothing agent for psychological and spiritual problems, and to increase the level of consciousness of the Chakras. It is a kind of inner massage of the physical and energetic body through the vibrations of your own voice. Music has also been used by many Indian Saints as a powerful tool in the quest for enlightenment. The name Nada Yoga is also often used for so-called sound healing and, for example, singing bowl concerts.

Āsana is the Sanskrit word that we translate as Seat (posture) with full and relaxed Breath (awareness). Expressed in general terms Asana denotes a specific position which can be held in a relaxed and comfortable manner for a long period of time. In the 2nd Century before Christ, Patanjali wrote down the principles of Yoga practice in the “Yoga Sutras” (aphorisms). He named only the meditation posture “Asana” and the physical postures he termed “Yoga Vyayam”. However, in common usage the dynamic Yoga exercises also became known as Asanas.
Asanas are beneficial for the muscles, joints, cardiovascular system, nervous system and lymphatic system, as well as the mind, psyche and Chakras (energy centres). They are psychosomatic exercises, which strengthen and balance the entire nervous system and harmonise and stabilise the practitioner’s state of mind. The effects of these exercises are a sense of contentment, clarity of mind, relaxation and a feeling of inner freedom and peace.
The system “Yoga in Daily Life” is designed in such a way that the body is gradually and systematically prepared, leading from simple preparatory exercises towards the more advanced and difficult Asanas. Periods of relaxation are included at the beginning and end of each Yoga class, as well as between the individual exercises. By developing the ability to relax, the feeling for one's own body is deepened. Physical and mental relaxation are prerequisites for the correct performance of all Yoga exercises and it is only in this way that the effects of the Asanas completely unfold.
The breath plays an important role in the Asanas. With coordination of breath and movement, the Yoga practice becomes harmonious, the breath deepens of its own accord and the body’s circulation and metabolism are stimulated. Use of the breath greatly enhances muscle relaxation by concentrating on tense areas of the body and consciously relaxing those parts with each exhalation.
As most people are in the habit of breathing quite shallow, inadequately filling the lungs, the Full Yoga Breath is practiced in “Yoga in Daily Life”. Correct breathing is fundamental for the body’s optimum metabolic function. With regular practice, the Full Yoga Breath becomes the habitual and natural way of breathing. Slower and deeper breaths improve circulation, nerve function and one’s whole physical condition. It also develops a calm, clear mind.

------------------------------------------------------
In a Yin & Yang yoga class we work with both qualities, active, dynamic movements (Yang) are alternated with tranquil postures (Yin) that are held longer. The Yang in the movements is aimed at the muscles and ensures a powerful vital body. The Yin postures focus more on the deeper connective tissue around joints and organs and bring you into contact with the silence within yourself. This creates a healthy balance between body and mind.

--------------------------------------------
Hatha yoga is a gentle physical form of yoga that uses the body. This can be done in an intensive way, but also in a more relaxed way. Actually, all other forms of yoga offered by Yogaroom are derivatives of hatha yoga. In all classes body and mind are trained through (sometimes intensive) postures. By consciously working with the body and breathing (5-10 breaths per posture), the body becomes healthier and awareness increases. The physical postures provide an increase in strength, flexibility, and a healthier body. Breathing plays an essential role in hatha yoga, as breathing affects the entire body. Proper breathing has a positive effect on the entire body.

------------------------------------------------
In a Yin yoga class, the postures (passive, sitting and lying) are held longer than in any other class. Because they are all postures in which the body can relax, you not only become more flexible, but you can also let go more easily. Many enthusiasts of yang (active) classes also like to go to a yin class to maintain balance. In this class you can learn to relax, open and soften deeply in connective tissue. Singing bowls and other sound effects are used in this lesson.

Kundalini Yoga is a science-based yoga style that promotes optimal health and a radiant feeling. The simple but energetic and dynamic yoga exercises are for everyone: young, old, big, small, with or without yoga experience, etc. In addition to these exercises, there is a lot of attention for breathing techniques and the use of mantras. As a result, you can experience the positive effects of Kundalini Yoga almost immediately. Kundalini Yoga helps to balance the energies of your brain, nervous system and endocrine system so that you can constantly function at a higher level without exhausting your body and mind. When your body and mind relax, inspiration can flow freely and you experience peace in your mind. There is room for softness, opening and letting go. But also for strength, perseverance and discipline.
