Unwind and relax your body and mind from the stresses and strains of daily living with this slower paced class which includes sequences of restorative postures and pranayama (breath control/conditioning) techniques to soothe, nourish, create equilibrium and balance through healing restoration. Yoga props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, yoga chairs) are used for many of the postures to support the body. This physical support helps students to stay in postures comfortably without straining. Many household items (beach towels, firm summer weight quilts, firm pillows, sturdy books, armless chairs) may be substituted. Restorative postures help calm the mind and create opening and release in the body for pranayama. Pranayama is conscious breathing through self observation where we perceive the connection between the breath, the mind and the emotions as we move our consciousness inward. Some experience in Iyengar general classes (level 1, 1/2, 2 and above) is strongly encouraged before taking this class.
