PRANAYAMA & MEDITATION

DOORS OPEN AROUND 07:50
PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME

"Prana" is breath, the vital energy in the body, or life force. "Yama" means control or restraint. Therefore Pranayama translates to breath control or controlling our vital energy.

Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

“Quiet the mind, and the soul will speak.”
– Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati

With a still mind and a stable state, we can more easily notice and listen to our intuition. However, much mystery surrounds what happens in meditation after we are able to quiet the mind, and delve deeper into it. Every meditation tradition has their own view, theory and guidelines on this, and ultimately we can only know for sure by trying for ourselves.

“Mindfulness is a quality; meditation is a practice.”

Meditation is a practice, and through this practice, one can develop different qualities, including mindfulness. Mindfulness describes a specific way of living that can be cultivated through practice. Meditation is one method through which someone may learn to live mindfully — with more awareness and gratitude.

John Kabat-Zinn (creator of the MBSR program) defines mindfulness as “the awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally.”
