Summer Jobs Available for Yoga Teachers and Studio Owners

For most people, the hot months mean vacations, working on your tan, music festivals, and a time to go wild and free. For us Yoga teachers, it is prime working hours. While we don’t have students filling our studios, we head towards other avenues to propagate our practice and offerings.

So where do we go while everyone has left?

There are several ways you can go about this.

As teachers, we can bring yoga to different destinations as well as spend our holidays living in an exotic location. However, proprietors are bound to their facility–to a point. Nowadays, Yoga has become so widespread that, not only can we find a variety of work, we can also create new ways to bring our craft to the community.

In this article, we will discuss real-time jobs available today, including some tips on how to expand your reach creatively to ease into your next steps. Sounds good?

Great!

Let’s get to it!

Build Your Yoga Portfolio

Including a media kit, like some pre-set and targeted yoga workshops and/or classes on your website or in a private YouTube link for agents to check out, is one of the new business practices in today’s wellness ecosystem. This opens up new opportunities for us to break into music festivals, become a guest teacher in a country club or collaborate with other yoga teachers on YTT ( yoga teacher training) prospects. Your website, presentation letter, and CV are the most important tools you have to show potential employers what you can do. In the summer, all these examples are sought after from all over the world. This also means that you are trying to stand out on a global scale. Looking as professional as possible is key.

Know Which Jobs are Needed

During my research into this article, I went on sites like indeed, yogatrade.com, as well as some popular facebook groups to find patterns in what employers are posting on social media. I found that most destination centers are looking for yoga teachers with adjacent certificates such as Pilates and massage. Other platforms are also on the lookout for a nutrition background with cooking experience. By looking for the common denominators in the posts, it will give you ideas on preparing your presentations.

Create and Collaborate with people and Establishments.

I always say that if you can’t find the thing you want to do. Make it. Create offerings that you would like to take yourself. For example, I have always wanted to create a yoga workshop that combines equine therapy. No one was doing this. So I started calling up ranches around my area that provided equine therapy and pitched the concept. I was pleasantly surprised when they agreed to host me. Don’t be afraid to propose your ideas, whether it’s yoga and a wine tasting, including an animal experience using adoptable pets to interact with in your classes, or yoga with therapeutic dance with a DJ; go for it and make those calls. The worst they can do is say no.

Summer Youth Camps

If you have experience in teaching Yoga for children, this might be the way for you. Although most camp positions have already been filled by now, it is something quite viable to think of for next year. Camps all over Europe and the United States are constantly looking for activity specialists for their day or sleepaway camps. Though, I have to advise there’s a chance that they might only take applicants with a Yoga Alliance certification or another title that qualifies you to teach children/age group.

Work-exchange Programs

I have only done a handful of work-exchange programs, and I honestly didn’t enjoy it, yet I know of their existence. Maybe it was just the experience I’ve had, but I haven’t tried any more since. If you do enjoy these offerings, this is the most abundant type of summer job available. I guess after enduring some tribulations during my time as an unpaid worker, it all comes down to your values and your sense of what’s valuable. If you can forego earning recompense for an amazing experience in some locale with free food and lodgings, then take the job. If you place a monetary value on your time spent in a professional capacity, then don’t take the job.

Yoga/ Pilates Instructors in Boats or Yachts

This position will require a number of certificates to be prepared for, but it is one of the highest paid options out there. As a yoga instructor in a yacht charter, the salary plus tips can soar through the roof. The difficult part is the investment in the necessary certifications to apply for this line of work. To give a brief description of the available positions, they are normally looking for a combination of a yoga instructor and/or personal trainer/ Pilates instructor. There’s a big bonus if you qualify as a cook too. If you do already have the qualifications, check out spots such as yotspot for upcoming work.

Yoga Classes as an Airbnb host

Taking advantage of the Airbnb ecosystem during the summer months can potentially make a solid income that can also stretch out the rest of the year if you live in a high-tourist location. With or without a studio, you can list your services as an on-demand private instructor for reduced groups and even create bespoke classes for your clients. Another way to go about it is to hold a pop-up class in a scenic outdoor space. Lastly, you can collaborate with Airbnb hosts to recommend your services to their guests. However, they do have strict requirements:

● You need to be an active member of Yoga Alliance with a minimum of RYT 200H certification

● Local permits to impart classes outdoors

● General and professional liability insurance are a ‘must-have’.

Other unsaid requirements are:

● professionally taken photos of your experience

● specific or authentic experiences led by the host so market your class accordingly

● Carefully curated itinerary from start to finish.

While it does sound pretty tedious to go through all of these hoops, it really has the potential to catapult your business. I would give this one some serious consideration.

There you have it. My list for your possible income streams for the summer months. Whether you are going for any of these options now or preparing for next year i hope this article serves you well. Take care and good luck Momoyogis
