Description
Join Liam Colfer for a walking tour around the tip of the Hook peninsula. Liam is a fully qualified Regional Tour Guide of Ireland and has been working as a tour guide since 2008. He was raised here on the Hook peninsula and spent ten years working as the head tour guide at Hook Lighthouse, the oldest intact lighthouse in the world and the gem of this peninsula and more recently he worked for the Commissioners of Irish Lights carrying out maintenance duties on Hook Lighthouse as lighthouse keepers of the past would have done. A self confessed pharologist (lighthouse enthusiast), he has just come back to the Hook after spending two years travelling with his family and visiting lighthouses all over Europe.
Liam spent his childhood roaming the shoreline discovering every rock, chan, cave as well as the numerous historic buildings and ruins dotted along the route. He knows it inside and out, is passionate about the whole area, the history, geography and nature of the Hook and he looks forward to sharing his stories with you. Whether you’re already living on the Hook or are visiting this beautiful peninsula you will enjoy this relaxing, informative and enjoyable three mile hiking tour around the tip of the peninsula.
On this tour, you will learn about the seafaring tradition on the Hook, leaning about past storms, the history, the shipwrecks and folklore along the way. Explore Slade harbour and see the castle, salt houses, traditional Hook cottages and local fishing boats, continuing your tour along the road to Churchtown, where you will see Loftus Hall and explore the ruins of Hook Church, talking about the traditional stone walls, the bays, the limekiln along the Hook road to finish our hike back at Hook Lighthouse.
