"If you can breathe, you can practice" is an age-old saying in India, where yoga is embraced by people of all ages, from children to the elderly, and those who are injured or unwell. I've long held the aspiration to offer such a class. After my recent trip to India earlier this year, where I revisited the fundamentals myself, practicing the simplest form of classical hatha yoga with Indian teachers, it became clear: the time has come to extend this wonderful practice to those who haven't yet found the determination or encouragement to begin their yoga journey. It was this kind of yoga that moved me on my first trip to India in 2007 when I couldn't touch my toes, sit in a lotus and a headstand was still years away from this point onwards.
This class welcomes everyone of all age groups, catering to those who are new to yoga, those looking to return after an extended break, and experienced practitioners seeking authentic yoga to maintain a healthy body. Beginners will embark on a journey to learn yoga from its foundational principles, mastering the synchronization of breath and movement, following clear instructions, and adopting effective postures to nurture a healthy body and mind.
