I teach the Baptiste style of Vinyasa yoga where the emphasis is on awakening and empowering, and Yin yoga - for deep release. From beginners to seasoned yogis. And everyone in between.
Description
Special class to celebrate winter solstice and the last yoga class of the year. A luxurious pause in stillness, silence and a deep release of our muscles and stiff clunky bits.
The Winter Solstice on 21st December marks an auspicious shift in daylight, when we begin to emerge from the darkness back into the light. It’s the shortest, darkest day of the year. The long dark days of winter can make us feel physical stagnant, fatigued, and sluggish from hibernating. We often feel low on energy, fed up of shopping, bright lights, noise and all the commercial aspects of this time of year.
This Yin session on the solstice is to “honour” that pause (solstice means “sun standing still”) before we move into the next season.
We’ll focus on the depth of the pose, the stillness in the pose, and holding of the pose for a length of time. The magic starts to happen with the time, not the depth.
It’s a low energy practice, mat based. Ideal if you’re feeling tired. And the poses are designed to revitalise our chi (energy) by stimulating our meridians (energy pathways) and organs. We move gently into poses and hold there for three to five minutes. We’ll use props to support us (like bolsters, cushions, blankets).
Bring a blanket, and eye pillow. Wear layers and cosy socks. Turning up in your PJs to this class is absolutely acceptable!
