Description

Welcome to the 8 limbed path of yoga class series. In this series we will take a deep dive into the 8 limbs of yoga. What are the 8 limbs you may be wondering? They are:

1. The Yamas - our social guidelines and moral discipline of how we treat and relate to others.
2. The Niyamas - personal observances with ourselves. How we relate to our inner world, our self discipline.
3. Asana - the poses and postures
4. Pranayama - breath
5. Pratyahara - withdrawal of the senses
6. Dharana - intense concentration
7. Dhyana - state of meditation
8. Samadhi - state of oneness or bliss

Each limb will have its own class except for the first two. The Yamas and Niyamasa each have 5 guide posts that will reach receive their own class so we can explore and discuss each in depth.

Patanjali created the 8 limbed path as a way to explain the journey. The Yoga Sutras he compiled (around 200CE) are made up of 196 verses that guide you on your journey of self realization through the 8 Limbed yogic path. It is a comprehensive view of the philosophy and practice of yoga.
Swami Jnaneshvara Bharati
Explains "that the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali succinctly outlines the art and science of traditional Yoga meditation for Self-Realization. It is a process of systematically encountering, examining, and transcending each of the various gross and subtle levels of false identity in the mind field, until the jewel of the true Self comes shining through."

This series will include information, exploration and conversation and a cup of tea.

This class will introduce the Yamas and highlight the first Yama, Ahimsa. We will define it and review the Yoga Sutras aligned with this Yama. Included will be suggestions of ways to explore this within your journey. There will be guided imagery, journaling, and we will end class with a meta meditation on loving kindness.
