Discover the ancient Chinese martial art known as Tai Chi, a "moving meditation" widely practiced today for its significant health benefits. This beginner series will guide you through the fundamental principles of Tai Chi, focusing on slow, deliberate, and graceful movements that foster harmony between your mind and body. Perfect for all fitness levels and ages, this low-impact exercise is gentle on the joints and requires no prior experience.
Key Benefits
Regular practice of Tai Chi can lead to a variety of physical and mental health improvements:
• Improved Balance and Coordination: Enhance stability and help prevent falls, especially in older adults.
• Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Promote mental calmness and a peaceful inner state through focused, meditative movements.
• Increased Flexibility and Strength: Build lower and upper body muscle and bone strength comparable to resistance training.
• Better Sleep Patterns and Increased Energy: Improve overall well-being and vitality. Encouraging longevity.
• Mindfulness: Learn to focus attention on the present moment and cultivate a strong mind-body connection.
What to Expect in Class: Classes are 60 min.
• Warm-up: a gentle qigong exercise to prepare the mind/body with movement and breath.
• Foundational Movements: Step-by-step instruction on basic postures and movements like "Ward Off," "Brush Knee," or "Cloud Hands".
• Form Practice: Gradually learning a beginner-friendly sequence of Wu/Yang style tai chi movements and linking them together into a fluid simple routine. Set 1.
• Concluding the session: A 10 min. meditation lying or seated (your choice). Meditation helps bring the chi (energy) that you have created full circle (home). Yin Yang!
