*** The practice is short and starts at 22 minutes in, following our discussion. The movement portion of the class is intended to increase energy, quickly and also help you feel more grounded and present. Although the practice is short, the last 7 minutes are relaxation and meditation!

This week we continue exploring our monthly theme of discernment and self-study through Sutra 2.26 from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Sutra 2.26 teaches that through the steady practice of viveka (discernment), awareness begins to deepen within us. This is not a type of knowing that relies only on the senses, intellect, or constant analysis, but a quieter and deeper inner knowing that develops through practice, reflection, and self-study.

As a result of consistently returning to awareness, clarity begins to emerge. We start to notice the difference between reaction and truth, fear and intuition, external conditioning and what genuinely feels aligned within us.

One commentary on this sutra says:
“As a result of the constant practice of self-knowledge, at a certain stage, awareness must develop in you.”

Yoga invites us into this ongoing process of discernment—not perfection, but learning to pause, observe, and choose with greater honesty and awareness. Of the many choices that present themselves in thought and action, can we begin choosing what leads us toward clarity, courage, truth, and deeper alignment?
