HOW IT WORKS
To join online classes, please purchase an online class drop-in (or use your class pack / membership) and register for each class. Each class registration is only applicable for the person registered.
If you want to practice with a friend or more (the more the merrier) and join from the same device, please ensure everyone is individually registered for the class.
We kindly ask you to keep your camera on, so we can connect with you from wherever you are, and offer verbal assisting.
Once you're registered for an online class, you'll receive the Zoom link via email 30 minutes before the class, and you'll also have access to it from momoyoga.
-----
Yin is a non-dynamic, mental, deep, inner-inquiring, psychological practice, that combines principles from Chinese medicine, Indian yoga philosophy, and Western psychotherapy. Poses are held for longer (3-5 minutes), with a rebound pose (lying down) after each pose. Yin is the other side of a life in Yang. Today’s society makes it so that we always live on the surface, rarely taking the time to access the inner patterns, programmes, archetypes that actually drive our actions. Call it healing therapy, that works with the deeper layers of the body, deeper parts of ourselves.
Suitable for all levels.
Taught in English.
No worries if you don't have a bolster and bricks at home. For props, get creative - just pick up a couple of pillows of different sizes, a blanket to roll up or fold (instead of a bolster), and maybe even some books (instead of bricks).

Equanimity in the burning fire. Ashtanga is a strong and meditative practice filled with mystery and 'aha' moments. This practice has unknown origins (no one knows where the sequence first appeared) and a long history of curious and disputed principles. Originally, the sequence was exclusively taught to young Brahmin boys (in India, a Brahmin is a person of the highest class, spiritually and socially, e.g., sons of teachers and priests). So it was designed for the young and flexible. Fortunately, things have changed in today's world.
In the 60s, 70s and 80s, Ashtanga found its peak, with many Westerners travelling to India to practice for months with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Lots of them then started teaching in the West (some were 14 when they first started teaching!).
Today, still, Ashtanga is somewhat a feared practice by many, due to its solid and robust approach, its 'fixed' sequence, and poses that require a certain degree of strength and flexibility (yes, some poses look like them people don't have any bones at all!). Spoiler alert: the sequence doesn't have to be that fixed.
Injuries and strong physical adjustments used to be the norm. Not anymore. At least, not at ALTAR. We believe Ashtanga is a deeply powerful AND softening practice. A practice that can bring a trance-like state, where time stops, the mind becomes fixed on the present moment, and through which higher states of consciousness can be reached.
Ashtanga is a practice that can be adapted to suit everyone's uniqueness. No two people are the same, so, there's no way a pose should be exactly the same for everyone.
We believe in working with the energy of each individual, facilitating their own journey, in their own way, rather than pushing people into things. Our focus is on finding the magic, developing focus, physical and mental strength, and taking the practice higher. Always remembering that yoga is, before anything else, a spiritual practice.
For now, all classes will be open level. The teachers adapt the difficulty of the classes based on the students and offer options for everyone, regardless of their experience with yoga (if you are a beginner, please do not panic, we promise you'll be fine).
Taught in English.

Strong and radical. Infused with ancient yogic wisdom adapted for today, it encourages personal exploration and leads to clarity and true self-confidence. Expect uplifting (and sometimes experimental) music, foundational yoga poses and words that go straight to the heart.
This is a dynamic class. Suitable to anyone from adventurous beginners to experienced practitioners. The teachers adapt the difficulty based on the level of the class and offer variations, but expect to move your body in a dynamic way.
Taught in English.
