Kari Malen
Yoga has been a pillar of Kari's physical and mental health practice for over two decades. Originally she incorporated yoga as a stretching routine to maintain an athletic lifestyle which later became an exploration and fascination with the ‘so much more’ that yoga has to offer. Her classes are playful, exploratory, and designed to provide you with an embodied experience while meeting you where you are at physically.
Kari's original yoga teacher training (YTT 250+) took place in Mysore, India under Yogacharya Barath Shetty – a disciple of B.K.S. Iyengar – in the IndeaYoga style, earning a teaching certificate in 2012. She is also trained in specific body care modalities including; Hip Bliss, Shoulder Recovery, Yoga & the Aging Body, Cardio Yoga Sculpt, Inversions, & Anatomy Trains – yoga for Myofascial release.
Description
Beginners: lean into yoga as an exploration of body, breath, balance, and beyond - this class offers an entryway into the world of what yoga can do for you.
Seasoned Practitioners: revisit alignment habits and undo potentially injurious ones, focus on body articulation, proprioception, interoception, and simmer in poses a little longer than a flow class allows. Reconnect with your practice on a deeper level. Who knows what you might discover.

Description
TRY BOTH the 3 Bodies Movement & Lights Out!
1 hour of guided movement, 1 hour of free-form dance.
No need for prior experience in dance.
GUIDED MOVEMENT - using different tools to work with the physical body, mental/emotional body, and spirit with the hopes of creating unity in the individual and recognizing our relationship to other. The class is guided in theme but the movements are improvised. Finding your own interpretation of the story work will deepen our communication with our body and creative, intuitive self.
FREEFORM DANCE - class is followed by Lights Out, a freeform dance hour in a dimly lit room. This one hour freeform dance is a no talking, no shoes, dimly lit room, allowing a more introspective and uninhibited safe space to explore your moving body in rhythm and play.
Enter through the back parking lot, this space is next to Revolt Gallery and Salon X.

The practice starts with lubricating joint space and hydrating connective tissue with SATYA floor work, and continues with standing poses for strength and stamina. Supported back arching and inversions open the lungs and heart for renewal and vitalization. Suitable for all levels. Class recording will be available for 7 days to all who register. Description
A workshop focused on bones and the spaces that exist between them (joints!). Structural Movement is a movement practice with exercises inspired by yoga, tai chi, Ida Rolf, and Moshe Feldenkrais. Through gentle exploration we will learn how to find a deeper sense of alignment from the inside out. Students will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of their anatomy and tools to form a personal practice that better supports a body moving in ease.

Since then, she has taught in local Taos studios, including Shree, Aurafitness and Ojo Caliente. She became certified to teach Yoga Nidra in 2020.
Description
Begin your month with intention and deep relaxation using the ancient spiritual practice of Yoga Nidra. This will be an in-person 90 minutes session.
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra (or yogic sleep) is an ancient Indian practice in which you are led by a guide into a safe hypnagogic state of consciousness where you remain awake and aware. In Sanskrit, nidra means to draw forth a state of nothingness. Yoga Nidra is practiced entirely in savasana (corpse pose) and occurs between waking and dreaming, while remaining embodied and conscious. Johanna's Yoga Nidra meditations include guided narrative journeys using symbols and visual scenes that access the subconscious programming of the mind and can be used to change habits, release deep tensions, and heal inner wounds.
What to expect?
We will begin class with some gentle movements, followed by pranayama, breathing exercises. After, we will settle into Yoga Nidra, lying comfortably on our backs with props and remaining there for the remainder of the class. Modifications can be made for practitioners who are unable to lay on their back for a long period of time. Johanna will lead the class into a deep state of relaxation using guided imagery, similar to trance or journeying. There is a traditional format used to move in and out of the hypnagogic state, but the main meditation and theme is different each month.
What to bring: (optional)
blankets
bolster
pillow
eye cover
journal and pen in case you want to write down your experience after
Please let the teacher know if you have environmental sensitivities to scent.
