I began practicing yoga more than 20 years ago and have never looked back. The initial purpose of my taking yoga was to find a compliment to an intense cardio and weight training regimen but it quickly became something more. The physical sensations began to take a back seat to the intrinsic benefits that came from the breath work and meditation that exists within a yoga practice. I slowly began to incorporate more yoga and less high intensity workouts, flipping the original pattern. Not only did I notice my mind reacting but also my body, I became stronger physically with much less damage to my joints and muscles. It became obvious that yoga held a special place within me, and I decided I wanted to share this amazing gift with others. I began yoga teacher training in 2014 and have been teaching ever since. I see the affects yoga has on my students and I am overjoyed that they often have the same realization that I had, you don’t need to fight your body, but instead connect all its parts; the physical, emotional, as well as spiritual and you will achieve an overall wellness that cannot be matched.

I've been really active my entire life, but I didn't really get an understanding and an appreciation for stretching, flexibility and mobility until I trained for the NYC Marathon in 2014. I had been running all my life, long distance, short distances and in between through track in high school and Army training but I had never run 26.2 miles all at once. So I wanted to understand how to sustain and stay safe and healthy while training. I started taking mobility classes, yoga classes and starting integrating deeper stretches. These stretches helped keep me flexible and lessen the tension in my muscles after long runs. This is when I realized how important stretching was for everyday use as well as athletes.
A yoga instructor I followed for about two years started developing a stretching program specifically geared towards improving our basic range of motion and I decided to join the program. I started working with close friends giving them stretching techniques and incorporating 15 minutes daily into my routines after each workout and started to see improvements in my squats, lunges and just everyday tasks. So I decided to try my hand at formally providing flexibility and stretching to others.
For me, stretching and flexibility is about being able to stay physically able for as long as you can. So my classes will provide long passive stretching that will allow each student to see a progression over time as long as they continue to practice, breathe and be willing to stretch past their boundaries.
Description
Open and lengthen your entire body with this 60 minute deep stretch class that incorporates longer-held seated, standing, and supine positions intended to stretch the muscles from various angles.

Myofascial Release- Roll with it! - 3 week series
Join Andrea for a 3 Week Myofascial Release Workshop series! In the Roll with it series, we will focus on the upper, middle, and lower body. Myofascial release is helpful to assist in muscle and skeletal mobility. It helps to lessen pain by relaxing contracted muscles, while improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.
