Elena Velasco
Elena Velasco found yoga through her work as a theatre and movement artist. For over 25 years she has worked in the performing arts industry as a director, choreographer, performer, and professor in the DMV and Greater Boston regions. Through such companies as Synetic Theatre and Convergence Theatre, she found that the fullest creative expression and connection was the result of the synthesis of the mind-body-consciousness. Yoga has helped her craft choreography that is more sustainable and gives performers greater agency over their bodies. Yoga informs her work in all disciplines, whether leading a vinyasa class at Bowie State University where she is an associate professor of theatre and movement, or establishing a healthy, mindful rehearsal process for movement-based performance. She completed her 200-hour teacher certification at Rising Sol Yoga School and is a member of Yoga Alliance. She believes yoga and the arts must be accessible and is passionate about holding space for a range of students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, genders, and lived experiences. Along with her active professional life, she enjoys biking, hiking, and meditating, and is the proud mother of seven children, all who have various paths and passions.

Nicole Decker
I’m Nicole and I hope to hold space for those who want both a practice and a place to just be. I’m a 500hr yoga instructor and starting my trainings with Valerie Baltzer in Swansboro, NC. I continued to learn and assist in teacher trainings alongside Stacey Reynolds in Little Rock, Arkansas. I’m currently entering year two with JJ Gormley in a 900hr training to become a Certified Yoga Therapist. All of my trainings have been deeply infused with the heart of yoga, all of them connected with the Krishnamacharya lineage. I have been teaching for nine years and my favorite thing about yoga is that I can do the same poses, the same way, every single day, and be blessed with an entirely new practice every-time I show up. That’s a true gift. I specialize in gentle and vinyasa based classes, both with the focus on accessibility, alignment, moving meditation and allowing the yoga to meet you where you are.
We are a military family, so yoga travels well with me! I have a son, two dogs and a career I can infuse with creativity and passion. I’m a writer, self published author and professional organizer!
I believe in the healing power of connection, holding space and cultivating community. How we move and breathe is how we show up in life. I desire to teach those who want to connect with their inner magic. Who trust that change requires patience and process and those that see the beauty in the shadow of things. I strive to ignite a sense of clarity and spark to those on an inner journey to the heart.
Class Description:
Description
Gentle Yoga: Very beginner friendly. We spend most of the class on our belly, back or seated (with props!). Our focus will be on honoring how we showed up that day, connecting with breath and coming into a sweet surrender with a 10 minute savasana. Depending on the energy of the class we may come to stand for a short period of time, connecting breath to movement. Options, props and stair-step variations are always offered!

Leila Tobin
Leila is passionate about mindfulness and mindful movement. She is certified with the Yoga Alliance as a 200-hour Interdisciplinary Yoga Teacher (through Evolve Yoga and Wellness, affiliated with the Nosara Institute in Costa Rica). Yoga and mindfulness practices were instrumental in her journey towards regaining balance after experiencing years of chronic stress and burnout. Leila is a firm believer in the mind-body connection and the power of somatic approaches in stress release. Leila is also a Certified Workplace Mindfulness Facilitator and holds certificates in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) through Mindful Leader, as well as a Wellness Counseling certificate from e-Cornell. Her classes incorporate mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork, along with gentle mindful movement - all meant to still the fluctuations of the mind and restore balance and harmony in the body. Leila is an internal mindfulness and movement champion within her organization and has experienced first hand how mindfulness helped her promote self-regulation, decrease reactivity, and develop a strong sense of equanimity and peace.
Description
Mindfulness Meditation
In this relaxing slow-paced practice, we engage in mindfulness-based stress reduction meditation (MBSR) and somatic mindful movement based in gentle yoga. We take time to intentionally experience connecting with the breath and body, training our awareness in more deliberately embracing the present moment. By purposefully slowing down, we train our minds, reset our bodies and rewire the nervous system, activating the relaxation response. We begin to connect to an inherent capacity to heal, learning to recognize the body’s subtle intelligence, stepping out of autopilot and into a more conscious, calm and balanced state. We honor the body and its different abilities, soothing the nervous system, and assist in stress management, self-regulation and homeostasis. All levels welcome.

Description
Craniosacral therapy is a light touch therapy for the whole body and whole person. It works with both the physical and energetic parts of the body. One of the core principles of craniosacral therapy is that the body will always seek health, and that balancing the nervous system helps clear the path for this process.
During a session, the client will lie down and the practitioner will lightly touch the feet, head, limbs, and spine. The practitioner is often looking to observe the rhythm of the craniosacral fluid (CSF), and notice any blockages that can be supported. Because the approach is systemic, benefits can range from relaxation to reduction in more specific symptoms.
Each participant will receive one 8-10 minute Craniosacral session during the Workshop.
For the remainder of the Workshop each participant will be in supported restorative yoga poses.
Restorative Yoga consists of propping up in long held supportive poses which allows the body to access its parasympathetic nervous system function, which, in turn, helps the body rest, heal, and restore itself to balance.
By allowing time for longer postures, restorative yoga helps elicit the relaxation response. This response can help slow breathing, reduce blood pressure, and produce a feeling of calm and increased well-being.
There is room for 6 participants.
Cost: $45
Monthly Members$40(email to receive discount)
There is no refund or credit for missed classes.

Cyndi Chu
I first discovered yoga as a high school cross country and track runner, and while I occasionally took
classes through college, I viewed it as a stretching practice. As an older adult I began to explore the
holistic aspects of yoga to supplement my interests in swimming, nature, and contemplative thought.
My perspective of yoga continues to evolve over time as an integrated expression of body, mind, and
spirit. I believe yoga should feel inclusive, and that we can all discover our own unique and joyful
practice. As a teacher, I love slow flow vinyasa and restorative yoga. My inspirations arise from a broad
range of traditional beliefs and emerging scientific thought. The teachings and poetry of Pema Chödrön
and Thích Nhất Hạnh hold special places in my heart. In addition to my RYT-200, I attuned at the
Shinpiden level (III) of the Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage of Reiki in 2014. I enjoy dipping into and playing with
traditional and modern energy modalities in my yoga practice.

Description
Restorative Yoga consists of propping up in long held supportive poses which allows the body to access its parasympathetic nervous system function, which, in turn, helps the body rest, heal, and restore itself to balance.
By allowing time for longer postures, restorative yoga helps elicit the relaxation response. This response can help slow breathing, reduce blood pressure, and produce a feeling of calm and increased well-being.
This class is perfect for all levels of practitioner.

Description
In this relaxing slow-paced class, we practice mindfulness-based stress reduction meditation (MBSR) and somatic mindful movement based in gentle yoga. We take time to intentionally experience connecting with the breath and body, training our awareness on being more deliberate in embracing the present moment. By purposefully slowing down, we learn to recognize our bodies’ subtle needs, reset our nervous system and activate the relaxation response. We move mindfully, honoring the body and its different abilities, soothing the nervous system, and assisting it in stress management, self-regulation and relaxation.
All levels welcome.
