Description
In this yogasession, you get to do soft yoga exercises that help your lymphatic system flow better. You will also learn to do lymphatic massage on yourself. Yoga for the lymphatic system combines movement and stillness in a way that restores lymphatic flow while providing recovery for both body and mind.
The class begins with a short introduction of self-massage and breathing exercises that activate the lymph flow and then transitions to soft and simple yoga flows. The focus is to soften the body around the shoulder blades, shoulders, armpits, groin and hips. The class ends with a longer rest.
When we exercise to speed up lymphatic circulation and detoxification, soft, flowing movements are best. We flex, twist and bend the spine. The shoulders are gently opened, the calf muscles and feet have to work in different ways and sometimes we hold the legs up and down to increase the lymph circulation in the legs.
The lymphatic system, just like the bloodstream, is a vascular system that runs parallel to the veins in the body. It is an important part of circulation and fluid balance. The system is intimately connected with the body's immune system, fat metabolism and functions as a sewage and purification plant. You can say that the lymphatic system is the body's garbage station where the body gets rid of various waste products, toxins and excess fluid.
Lymphatic circulation is driven by our muscles when we move. This means that if you sit still a lot, you automatically get poor flow in the lymphatic circulation. Other reasons why there may be problems with the lymph are hormonal fluctuations, blood sugar fluctuations due to poor diet, stress and worry, injuries to the body, too hard training or clothes that fit too tightly.
Common symptoms are fluid accumulation and swelling in the body or body parts, frequent colds, recurrent urinary tract infections, headaches and difficulty losing weight.
The simplest and single most important thing is to move the body. Get up often when you work and walk around, take a walk, exercise and always use your body, choose the stairs, not the elevator.
