Yoga is a life long wondrous journey for me!
I started my practice over 15 years ago when my kids were small. I knew I needed something in my life. I went to try my first yoga class and I was hooked. I am so grateful for that amazing first teacher. I was inspired, encouraged and supported. I continued my
journey until I felt compelled to do teacher training. It was another amazing step for me.
I am passionate about life, people and adventures. I love to travel and have been very lucky to have explored many countries worldwide. It has given me a unique perspective on the world we live in.
Since completing my teacher training at the International Sivanada Vedata Centre in 2015, I have continued to learn and grow. I have completed more training in Yin Yoga, Meditation and Chair Yoga; all have only strengthened my practice. I have had the delight to practice in the UK, Canada, Turkey and India. I look forward to helping you experience your
own journey of yoga.
Description
Yin postures are primarily about release. They are passive in nature and held anywhere from one to five minutes to target the body’s connective tissues. This practice focuses on stilling the body for a gentle, sustained sensation rather than a deep stretch. This stillness, combined with gentle movement and breathwork, calms the mind, settles the nervous system and promotes improved mobility. Helpful props for this practice include: yoga bolsters; blankets; yoga blocks; and a yoga strap (or tie or scarf). Some props (bolsters, blocks and straps) are available in studio. Feel free to bring your own blanket(s) and/or props.

This deep understanding of the intricate weavings of the anatomy allows her to support students in their practice by creating a sense of balance and well-being through personalized instruction even in group settings.
Description
This class takes a Hatha Yoga approach, with a focus on functional movement of the body to support an individual’s optimal mobility. By incorporating conscious alignment of the joints and body in the various poses, this yoga practice can help reduce pain and increase overall mobility. This class also offers mindful breathing, occasional short meditations and relaxation. Postures are usually held a bit longer than more dynamic flow classes, allowing time to settle in to your body and breath. Each class will be different and offer a variety of options so that this practice is truly your own. Yoga blocks and a yoga strap can be great tools to make the practice more accessible. Props are available in studio, but feel free to bring your own.

Description
In Sanskrit, "Kāla" means "time" and this class is all about making time for calm -- calm body, calm breath, calm mind. We will use a variety of techniques such as gentle standing, seated and reclined movements, breath work, simple meditations, and guided relaxation or yoga nidra (yogic sleep). Every class will be different and focus on a theme to guide our intentions. Absolutely no yoga experience required -- only a desire to move slowly, breathe mindfully and calm the mind.

Natalia B.
I am a certified yoga teacher (RYT 500) and meditation coach, a proud Canadian Armed Forces veteran and a mom. I humbly offer a caring and safe space, where you are met with patience and compassion. Together, let's find sanctuary in community and within our practice. We always focus on safe movement, including adaptations for injuries and varied abilities. I am trained in trauma-sensitive and adaptive yoga practices with a specialization in military and first responder audiences, though my offerings are for anyone who is facing heightened stressors or is struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, and/or chronic pain. All are welcome!
My personal yoga journey began in 2004 and deepened in 2015, when I began studying the field of trauma and the role of the mind-body connection in processing and integration. My practice is my bedrock, helping me stay balanced as I journey to process and heal PTSD and manage chronic pain. I sustained severe leg injuries five years ago, which landed me in a wheelchair. My doctors doubted that I would ever again walk without mobility aids, but I was determined to beat the odds. Yoga was instrumental in my recovery. My practice supported me in the hard work of physical rehabilitation and helped sustain my morale and mental equilibrium. Today I am once again able to move entirely without supports. This journey has helped me deepen my relationship with myself and the world around me and I profoundly appreciate our human resilience and capabilities.
Description
This is a relaxing candle-lit practice. Slow down with gentle, mindful yoga designed to help your mind and body unwind. You'll enjoy mostly seated and reclined postures, and a sprinkle of standing shapes. Techniques for nervous system downregulation will be shared before savasana. Props can be helpful for this practice. You are welcome to bring blankets or pillows and props. There are bolsters, straps and blocks at the studio. The practice can also be done without props.
Let go of your day and let's breathe and move together.

A new 90-minute format to dive deep into your body and rest!
Restorative Yoga is focused on... rest. You will settle in postures with props fully supporting the body so you can truly let go. Props provided at the studio but feel free to bring your own (e.g. bolsters; blankets; yoga blocks).

Each guest teacher will lead four Friday classes. Ellen or other Yoga Kāla teachers will provide mentoring and feedback to these teachers.
Proceeds from this class will be given to an Ottawa-based community organization or charity of the teacher’s choosing.

Description
This six-part series is designed to give participants an opportunity to explore yoga based on the foundation of the various poses. Each part starts with a basic introduction to the anatomy of the foundation (for example: sitting or standing in proper alignment), the bio-mechanics of the yoga poses, how to modify and adjust the poses based on the individual’s needs, and a short yoga practice at the end of each lesson to bring it all together.
This series is suitable for beginner yoga practitioners and those more experienced wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the anatomy of poses.
Cost is $175+tax for the entire series. It’s best to register for the entire series since the experiential practice at the end of each lesson will incorporate teachings from the previous sessions. If space permits, single session bookings will be accepted. If you are booking the entire series, please use your series pass to reserve a spot in each of the six classes.
PART 1 - SEATED POSES (January 21)
Learn the basic anatomy of an aligned sitting posture, how various seated positions impact the pelvis, spine and hips differently, and how to modify and adjust the seated position for postural alignment in various poses. Explore the poses with a seated yoga practice to bring all elements of the lesson together.

I am an Eastern soul living in Western world. Growing up in Confucianism/Taoism philosophy and Chinese Medicine lifestyle, yoga and meditation have been a big part of my life. Throughout my years of practice, my journey has revealed my passion towards the healing powers both practices have to offer.
Having formalized my yoga teacher training in 2021, I am excited to share my practice/passion with everyone at Yoga Kāla. My offerings will help students find a meditative quality in the movements that balance the Yin and Yang energies, and awakens the healing power within us.

Tessa Joy

Meditation is a mind-body practice in which your attention is focused on being mindful of the present, your breath, and your mind. Types of meditation vary throughout each person’s practice and can include breathing-based meditation, mindfulness practices, nature-based visualization, mantra and spiritual meditation.
