Move & Breathe Better
A 4-week course to learn all about moving, breathing, resting and living well in your body.
What if feeling good in your body wasn't about becoming more flexible, touching your toes or perfecting a particular shape — but about having more options?
Over five weeks, we'll explore our amazing and wonderfully adaptable human bodies through natural, functional and playful movement, breathwork and rest.
If you've been to my classes before, you know how much I talk about variety, how our bodies have this huge range of possible movements, but unfortunately we only end up using a small percentage of that. Mostly due to the convenience of our modern world. This creates an imbalance of movements that are used a lot, and some that are not used at all.
This course more than anything will focus on rebalancing that; not by creating crazy shapes or lifting heavy weights but by moving our bodies how they were meant to.
Our breath changes when we move, when we're stressed, when we're relaxed, when we exert ourselves and when we rest. And the way we breathe can influence how we move, how much tension we carry, how we respond to effort and how quickly we recover.
Over these five weeks, we'll explore both sides of this relationship — learning to move with more freedom, breathe with more ease and recover more deeply.
Rather than flowing from one pose to the next, we will spend a bit more time on each movement. Trying and testing what works for us. I will also aim to offer personalised tips for everyone to make it as valuable as possible - because all our bodies are different.
We'll crawl, squat, reach, rotate, balance, roll and move through different environments and positions. We'll also explore nasal breathing, ribcage and diaphragmatic movement, breathing during exercise, breath control, recovery breathing and different techniques for calming or energising the nervous system.
Rather than looking for one "perfect" way to move or breathe, we'll develop more options, awareness and adaptability — learning to respond to what our bodies actually need.
You'll leave with:
Greater awareness of how you move and breathe
Practical ways to improve mobility and strength
A better understanding of how to move with less unnecessary tension
Tools for using your breath to support effort and recovery
More confidence getting up, down, around and through different movements
Ideas for bringing more natural movement into everyday life
A renewed appreciation for the joy of simply moving your body
