Description

Ashtanga yoga is a method to quieten the mind and connect to what is within. A method is never arbitrary but intelligently build on foundation and tools. In this ashtanga yoga study we thoroughly explore the foundational principles of ashtanga yoga (tristana: breath, drsti, inner alignment) practically (by doing; in our practice) and philosophically. Drawing more focus to the principles of tristana, and with that also to the interplay of polar forces, will help you harness more awareness during your practice, with that bringing tools for more embodied connection (getting you more in tune with your body and out of your head), while also for a deeper sense of grounding and spaciousness in your physical, energetic, mental and emotional landscapes. We will start this study weaving the foundational principles into philosophy, from there we engage in a gentle pranayama before we connect to our inner landscapes in a practice session. During the practice we will especially investigate the interconnectedness of breath, bandha and polar forces to foster more stability, space and embodied awareness in our practice. We will close this study connecting back with yoga philosophy and chanting of yoga sutras. Each participant will receive a yoga philosophy and yoga sutra hand-out to take home. This ashtanga study is suitable for all practitioners of ashtanga yoga, both for beginning or more experienced practitioners of the ashtanga Mysore style, but also for practitioners who practice in the led-type ashtanga class. Please note that no refunds are possible after booking.
