Description
Ashtanga Mysore Yoga is the traditional method of teaching and learning ashtanga yoga. Students are guided through practice with 1-on-1 guidance of a teacher in a group setting, respecting silence as much as possible.
Progression through the practice occurs at an individual pace. Postures are added incrementally according to each practitioners ability and readiness while it's never the goal to just add postures - this is not the purpose of yoga, yoga goes beyond asana (postures). This readiness considers the mental and emotional aspects as well as the physical capacity, the breath playing a most fundamental role here.
Students new to Ashtanga and to Mysore style practice are welcome and encouraged to come along, we love welcoming beginners to our practice and school! This incremental elaboration and extension of practice offers the safest and most sustainable approach. It allows the body and the nervous system to integrate this potent transformative methodology in a compassionate and life-supporting way that suits the individual - each student's practice will be different yet in essence the same. Moreover, this approach offers the potential for genuine Parinamah ( transformation ) and for healing to occur.
Practical Information:
*Arrive at the school anywhere between 6.50-8.30h
*Practice compassion towards yourself and others.

Description
Once every month (always on a different weekday) offers a Full Led Primary with the Sanskrit Vinyasa Count and a yoga talk afterwards.
Doors open at 6.45h. We start at 7.00 sharp together, so be there a bit earlier.
All practitioners of Ashtanga Mysore are welcome to join, regardless of how far you are in your practice.
In this led class you practice until where you usually practice in your Mysore practice and then perhaps try a few of the next poses and/or observe before we get to backbends together. So much (!!) is learned by observing, really! And as always: It's not the goal to get anywhere and no-one is a better or worse yogi because they are / not doing full series - whether you practice full primary already just really doesn't matter. Just join with an open attitude.
The class is a great benefit to understand the energy of and harvest focus in the transitions between the state of an asana - this is often where we loose focus. How we get in and out of a situation is very important for the situation and what develops from there.
Moreover, Maxi will give technical and verbal cues while all are moving together building up a strong, focused energy.
After class Maxi will give a small talk about anything inspiring and relevant to our practice.
Altogether a very beneficial and complementary class for the Mysore practice.
PRACTICAL:
- This class is NOT suitable for complete newcomers to Ashtanga Yoga. In the traditional led class the poses themselves are NOT explained (for this we have the daily Mysore practice). In the traditional led class Maxi will provide the rhythm of the vinyasa count and provide a few cues. If you are a complete beginner join come to our Mysore class.
- We start at 7.00h sharp.
- Make sure you can stay until 8.30h when practice ends. It's ok if you have to leave at 8.30h in case you cannot join the short talk.

Description
For everyone who already practices Ashtanga Yoga
WHY?
Many of you have shared that you love the Ashtanga Mysore Yoga morning classes, have experienced the benefits of your practice, and would like to learn more tools and dive deeper into your yoga journey, beyond of what is possible in the morning classes. You’re looking for inspiration, guidance and support for implementing practical solutions; and for keeping your inspiration for practice ignited.
I hear you. I’ve been there.
The Ashtanga Yoga Insight & Development days will provide you the practical tools, solutions, knowledge and inspiration for maintaining momentum on your journey while diving deeper into the journey of the 8 limbs of yoga (Ashtanga yoga). Ultimately these special days of study support your consistency, inspiration, know-how, rootedness in your practice and connectedness to what you are doing.
Nothing beats coming together in a group setting, exploring and studying and sharing time on the path of yoga together for gaining fresh and inspiring perspectives for your practice; the depths of learning and insights go far beyond of what it possible during the morning Mysore classes.
A study day with me is an opportunity to take space to nourish yourself and your practice. For some it is a deep dive into self-study. For others, it’s a time to gently unfold and soak up the nuggets of inspiration and the magic of the group energy.
One of the benefits of setting this time apart for your study, away from your regular routine, is that we have the possibility to have a fresh look onto what we are doing and why, from a more conscious place. This new found inspiration and perspective we can then integrate into our practice and our everyday lives.
FOR WHOM?
The Ashtanga Study days are for all who are currently practicing Ashtanga yoga and who have a zest for diving deeper into the path of yoga.
Foremost, it's a continued opportunity for all who have completed the Ashtanga Intensive or who are currently in the Intensive to study and come together in this supportive group setting.
Yet, these Ashtanga Study Days are also open for all practitioners who have never joined the intensive. Don't worry: I will pick you up where you are at for kriya and pranayama; and the asana and philosophy topics will always be relevant and accessible for all practitioners.
WHEN?
These special days of Ashtanga study will take place on 3 June, 2 September and 11 November 2023.
To get the most inspiration, build up on the techniques and integrate all pieces it is recommended to sign in for all sessions. However, we know that not everyone can always attend all days, so it's also possible to sign in for single sessions - and all sessions can also stand by themselves.
WHERE?
In our new beautiful shala at Oosterhamriklaan 261a in Groningen.
SCHEDULE:
9.00-9.30h Meditation, Kriya & Pranayama
9.30-11.30h: Asana Practice (this can start with a led part and lead into Mysore or a pure Mysore class)

13.00-14.15h Chanting, Applied Yoga and Ayurveda Philosophy & Physiology
