My life’s work has been in Theater, Movement, Manual Healing Arts and Education.
For my own spirit and well being after my children grew up and left home, I took up the study of yoga after practicing in phases of my life since my teen years. Over several years I completed a 500 hour training though Lotus after being a student there for years prior and loving this community. Working with movement, sound, breathing and meditative practices bring me a grounded and joyful Spirit. Singing, walking, hiking, swimming in lakes and ocean, gardening, and writing poetry are my personal renewals.

Uxue Bengoetxea Romaratezabala
Uxue is a preschool teacher who moved from the Basque Country to Seattle 7 years ago. Despite her mother tongue being Basque, she is also fluent in Spanish and English.
She has a Master’s in Education, and her thesis focuses on the social and emotional development of children, as well as problem-solving in the classroom. Uxue believes that emotions are a crucial part of our lives, since everything we do is based on how we feel. She thinks that since we are kids, we should give emotions more importance and work on managing them. After completing her master’s degree, she felt the need to explore more about working with emotions in the classroom. She practices yoga, which made her realize that yoga could be a great practice to work with emotions in the classroom. In 2020, she took a class with Seattle Kids Yoga and started teaching yoga to kids. The following year, she completed a 200-hour Child Family Yoga training with Radiant Child Yoga.
Uxue genuinely enjoys teaching yoga to kids. She believes that children are innately authentic, and she feels the same way when she is around them. She loves listening to them, playing, and being silly together.
Considering that children are the future, one of her primary objectives is to guide them towards freedom, happiness, and confidence to improve their lives and shape a better future. That’s why she incorporates various yoga poses, movements, games, mindfulness activities, breathing techniques, calming and relaxing techniques, music and songs, books, and imaginative play in her classes.
She loves using visuals for guiding the class, but her favorite prop are books. She loves guiding the yoga class with books, incorporating poses, movements, breathing techniques, and mindfulness exercises.
In her free time, you will probably find her in the mountains hiking or rock climbing.

Maia Laverty
Maia delights in sharing the joyful and empowering practice of yoga with others! Maia loves yoga and believes that at its core it is a tool to explore with curiosity, compassion and a sense of wonder the entirety of our human experience.
As an "anatomy geek" Maia is currently embarked on a year-long mentorship study with her anatomy and biomechanics teacher, Jules Mitchell, exploring the state of scientific research in mindfulness, stretching, movement science, the neurology of movement, facia and healthy aging.
Maia brings this heart-felt blending of mindfulness, loving kindness and an active study of the evidence-based research to her classes: meeting each student where they are. Her classes include a mindful and accessible approach to strength-building and an exploration of our unique embodiment so that students learn how to move in their unique bodies in healthy ways.
Maia found her first class through the University of Washington extension program while she was completing her undergraduate degree. The class was nothing she expected; very gentle and slow and she did not break a sweat at all, but it made her feel good inside and out, and helped with the stresses of the last few quarters at the U. Immediately, the practice helped Maia to feel more at home; not only in her "skin", but also in her mind and emotions, it was revolutionary! Maia has been practicing yoga since her mid 20’s, teaching since her early 30’s and is now approaching 50 feeling ready to explore what healthy aging looks like thanks in large part to the tools gathered from mindfulness and yoga practices. Shoes may be placed on the shoe rack to your left against the wall.
You will notice a sign on the door to maintain quiet in the entry area when clients are in session in treatment rooms.
There is a bathroom at the end of the hallway. The Yoga room is directly across from the main entrance and slightly to the right behind a sliding door, which will be open until class starts. If you arrive late, and the front door is locked, please ring the doorbell and wait for the teacher to let you in.

Description
Online option for this hybrid class. If you would like to register for the in-person version of class, please select that class in the class schedule.
Sustainable Practice classes focus on how to work with our yoga practice so that it can be sustainable over time. We practice different options of yoga poses, listening to our bodies so that we can practice variations to best suit our unique beings for optimal benefits from our practice over the long-haul. On a physical level, the class is taught from the perspective of the importance of the nervous system in healthy movement and therefore starts with slow and mindful movement and breath. Class also includes stability-work, restorative postures and of course, an ending rest (savasana) to integrate our experiences.
Preregistration required - space is limited.
