Jessica O'Connor
With nearly a decade of experience in the hospitality industry, Jess has dedicated her career to helping others enjoy moments of rest and relaxation. This background has instilled in her a deep appreciation for the importance of stepping away from the demands of daily life; whether through a quiet morning coffee or an evening meal shared with others. Supporting people in finding space to unwind has been a consistent thread throughout her professional journey.
As an art student, she is deeply passionate about self-expression in all its forms, whether through creative practice or movement. While art has long been a central passion, it has also become an important therapeutic outlet; allowing her to explore and express aspects of herself that are difficult to articulate verbally. With aspirations of pursuing a future in art therapy, she continues to follow a path of self-discovery, using both art and movement as tools for reflection and growth.
Jess first discovered yoga at the age of 19, during a period of personal uncertainty, where it provided a sense of calm and grounding. Initially drawn to its physical and mental benefits, her practice soon evolved into something more profound; deepening her self-awareness and strengthening her intuition. This experience mirrored the sense of connection she found through her art, leading her to recognise yoga as not just a physical discipline, but a holistic and therapeutic practice.
Motivated to deepen her understanding, she travelled to India in 2024 to complete her 200-hour teacher training in Vinyasa and Yin yoga. While her initial intention was to develop her personal practice, she discovered a genuine passion for sharing yoga with others. She has since taught in both Portugal and India, gaining valuable experience and insight as a teacher.
Through her teaching, she has come to understand that every practitioner is unique, and that the role of a teacher is to hold space for individual exploration. Rather than instructing rigidly, she approaches yoga as a shared experience; one in which both teacher and student learn, connect, and grow together.
Her teaching philosophy centres on the belief that yoga is not about achieving calm, but about discovering oneself. While a sense of calm may arise through practice, she views it as a by-product of a deeper process; one of reconnecting with our true nature.
In her classes, she uses asana (physical postures) as a tool to release tension in the body, creating space for mental clarity and presence. Her sequences are thoughtfully structured and alignment-focused, while still encouraging students to listen to their own bodies and move intuitively.
She emphasises that yoga extends beyond physical appearance or perfection in posture. Instead, she guides students to move beyond ego-driven expectations and into a more authentic experience of the practice. Through patience and awareness, students are supported in exploring how each posture feels within their own body; opening the door to deeper emotional release and self-understanding.
