Laura Stoesz
Empowerment and empathy are at the heart of my practice, where I support adults, teens, and children (ages 8 and up) experiencing mental health concerns such as anxiety, mood, and adjustment disorders, trauma symptoms, and social stressors. I’m passionate about making space to explore and embrace identity, gender, sexuality, and disability. I also support individuals who are supporting loved ones, navigating life and career transitions, and exploring or redefining spirituality.
My approach is rooted in intersectional feminism, viewing mental health issues as responses to painful, stressful, or unjust circumstances, with the belief that healing and change are possible. I value diversity, offering a trauma-informed, strengths-focused practice that considers social and cultural contexts, and I aim to build a therapeutic relationship based on trust, safety, and self-discovery. With children, I incorporate play and art therapy along with family systems thinking to create a supportive counseling experience.
I recently graduated from UW-Madison with a master’s in counseling and am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in Training (LPC-IT), under supervision as I work toward full licensure. My journey into the mental health field was influenced by my own experiences as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and my dedication to providing affirming and accessible mental health care for all.
