 Karen

Time   7:00 am - 8:00 am
Teacher   Karen
Location   Russell Lea
Room   Church Hall

Energising Flow is a challenging set of Vinyasa Fusion sequences, it samples dynamic and static asanas in an organic flow guided by the breath. Its inspiration springs from the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition intertwined with DMT (Dynamic Movement Therapy), interval training, and Pilates. You will build and consolidate strength, stamina, stability and litheness, re-awaken your body awareness and clarity of mind while exploring progressive postural ranges. You’ll have the opportunity to challenge yourself and experiment with your practice, come out more confident, restored, recharged.

Open to all levels; while more experienced students can go to its deepest depths, beginners will be offered simplified variations of each pose in the flow. However, we recommend attending a Foundation Vinyasa or a Focused Movement class, if this is your first approach to yoga ever.

Practicing yoga during pregnancy is most likely the healthiest way to prepare your body and mind to welcoming your child into the world.

Not only will prenatal yoga help strengthen your body and improve mobility all throughout the 3 trimesters, it will also provide you with that mental and emotional support during labour and birth.

Our signature prenatal yoga course will arm you with the necessary tools to seamlessly transition toward parenthood keeping strong, balanced, energised, cardio-fit and mobile.

Classes are gentle, flowing and meditative, we focus on your absolute safety and cater through a wealth of modifications on the postures and transitions - for complications such as placenta previa, gestational diabetes, oedema, pre-eclampsia, oligohydramnios, and more.

Women are encouraged to listen and be kind to their bodies, and work at a level that’s appropriate for how they’re feeling class after class. We use a combination of postures, breathing techniques, meditation and visualisation exercises, that we've discovered through the years to have the following benefits:

* They assist with building breath and movement awareness
* They assist with building strength and stamina in a safe way
* They increase coordination and concentration
* They increase blood circulation and reduce swelling and inflammation
* They reduce back pain and other discomforts such as piriformis syndrome through improving posture and stretching safely
* You will learn self-massage and breathing techniques to use at home
* You will relax and restore, and remove unnecessary tension in your muscles
* You can cope with feelings of fear, worry/anxiety, inadequateness to the role of mother and develop trust and confidence in your body and mind
* You can learn about the changes that are happening in your body and feel reassured and accepting of the way our bodies evolve and change
* You will diminish the risk of diastasis recti (the separation of the abdominal wall)
* You'll actively influence the ideal positioning of the baby in the womb
* You will bond with your baby
Our program further empowers women toward an active, intuitive birthing process, it helps decrease stress hormones during labour and increase oxytocin (the hormone of love and bonding) and endorphins (the pain-killer hormones).
Last but not least, during the course you can connect with other mums-to-be, and establish a regular yoga practice in a safe and gently progressing way for years to come!

Location   Russell Lea

Stamina-building, progressing sequences designed to prepare body and mind for vigorous shifts in energy. In the spirit of traditional Indian yoga, blended with principles of ST (Stretch Therapy) and functional training.
Each of the seven sets follow a pre-defined structure that adds to itself week after week. They focus alternatively on: neck and shoulders; upper back; lower back; core and quads; hips/pelvis; upper limbs and hands; lower limbs and feet. An opening of breath work/Pranayama will flow into a long “warm up”/Pawanmuktasana series, and from there into a condensed, strong main sequence finalised with a deep guided relaxation.
This is an intense, albeit meditative, practice through which you will enhance your strength and endurance, improve circulation, mobility, and internal organ function, while working toward boosting your mind power.

Yoga Therapy is not in itself a yoga lineage, rather - it is a way of engaging with the yoga practice holistically, so you can bring your system back to balance and maintain that balance in the long run. It usually focuses on enhancing your wellbeing as a whole, rather than treating a single ailment or body quirk.

The tools of Yoga Therapy include but are not limited to: postures, flow, breath awareness and techniques, relaxation, meditation, dietary advice.

Our specific class at YogaRuka will help assist with and reduce the symptoms of chronic pain, fatigue, systemic muscular tightness and/or weakness, and its regular practice, in time, will bring you a different body awareness, and more space inside for the breath. You’ll pay more attention to how you are moving, sitting, standing - and you’ll find it easier to change habits that no longer serve you toward a better relationship with your own body-mind.

This class is open to all levels. Different options will always be given to challenge the more advanced students while befitting the beginners.
